Super 8 Surf Cinematography: Last Rincon Reel

Spat Out in Glory burned three reels of Super 8 at Rincon in mid-April: Here's the final installment.

The faults in the footage have been made clear in the first two reels. Ektachrome 64T casting its weirdly bluish tint from lack of proper filtering, mostly. Video after the jump...

For the Super 8 enthusiasts, the last half of this reel was shot on a 300 Canon TV lens. No polarizer, unfortunately. Didn't have a No. 85 filter, either. But the lens seems reasonably clear, despite the operator error on focusing at times. Looking for constructive/destructive critiques.

Roll video..

Great project. I am envious of your locations. Are you going to switch film stocks to 100d, or stick it out with 64T? I have shot Surfing with canon 814az and Bauer royal 10, but not the Beaulieu ( I have two, but neither work) I found that with the lens on those cameras, they get kind of soft in the focus below f4. I don't know if it is the same for the zm4, and can make waiting for the right light a real drag. The tripod you are using seems to do the trick, as the 300mm shots are stable and pleasing. If you are having trouble getting enough filters for all your lens, Maybe it would be worth while to DIY a mat box with a Conkin filter holder in it. I loved surf reels 1-14, Spider wills, and am looking forward to buying your DVD.

PS. Rincon?......sweet.

Switching to 100D ... My Beaulieu 4008zm may be going fritzy on me ... i'm afraid to know what's wrong with it... the auto exposure control is acting up. This is paralyzing.
